Central Park is one of the most infamous and well-known urban parks, located in Manhattan, New York. In 2013, it was the most visited park in the United States with more than 40 million visits. It's also one of the most filmed locations in the world, and holds the record for the fifth largest park in New York City; covering 843 acres.
-
During 1857, two landscape architects and designers, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux won a design competition that gave them the opportunity to construct the park with the plan that was known as the 'Greensward Plan.' The construction began the same year and the park was finally open to the public in 1859.

Central Park was named a National Historic Landmark by the U.S Department of the Interior in 1963 and was later designated to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 2017.
