Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee was born on May 27, 1922, in London, England. As a young man, Lee attended Wellington College and then joined the Royal Air Force from 1941-1946 and fought in World War II. Soon after his time in the Royal Air Force, Lee began to pursue a career in acting. -
Lee’s first film to be cast in was “Corridor of Mirrors” (1948). However, it did not gain him much recognition. It was almost ten years later when he gained gained the attention of Hammer Films for his role in “The Curse of Frankenstein” (1957). In 1958, he was cast as Count Dracula in “Horror of Dracula.” -
In 1974, Lee landed the role of Scaramanga, James Bond’s nemesis, in the film “The Man with the Golden Gun.” One of his most recognizable roles is that of Sarumon—an evil wizard—in the film adaptations of J. R. R. Tolkien’s books.
He appeared in “Fellowship of the Ring” (2001), and “The Two Towers” (2002). He later appeared in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” (2012), and “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” (2014). -
Along with his role in the popular Tolkien adaptations, he also was cast as Count Dooku in “Star Wars: Episode II—Attack of the Clones” (2002), and “Revenge of the Sith” (2005). Sadly, Lee died on June 7, 2015, in London, England.
