Pictured is Kate Moss posing for a photograph backstage at Versus in 1997. This photo was taken by Sante D’Orazio. Katherine Ann Moss was born on January 16, 1974, in Croydon, Greater London. Moss is an English model and businesswoman who is best known for her modeling during the mid-1990s — where she rose to fame — due to being part of the (now heavily criticized) heroin chic fashion trend. Moss was first discovered at the age of 14 by Storm Model Management founder, Sarah Doukas when Moss was waiting for a flight at JFK Airport in New York.

As her career in modeling grew, Moss started to collaborate with more well-known brands, such as Calvin Klein. After a few collaborations with them, she was granted an almost instant fashion icon status in the eyes of the public and media. Moss is mostly recognized for her waifish figure and her role/influence in the size 0 fashion scene. In late 2005, Moss came under media scrutiny for her alcohol and drug-fueled lifestyle, which led her to be dropped from major fashion campaigns.

After the drug allegations were cleared from her name, Moss continued modeling and even started her own clothing line and became involved with various musical projects. In 2012, she came second on the ‘Forbes’ top-earning models list, which estimated her at around $9.2 million a year. ‘Time’ Magazine named her the world’s top 100 most influential people in 2007, and later in 2013, she received an award at the British Fashion Awards for her contribution and influence in the fashion industry. Moss also happens to be a contributing fashion editor for British Vogue Magazine.
