Legendary artist, Pablo Picasso—whose massive full name was Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso—was born October 25, 1881, in Málaga, Spain.
-
Picasso got an early start with art as his father, Don José Ruiz Blasco, was an artist himself. At a very young age, his father began teaching him to draw and paint. By the time he was 13, his skill had far surpassed that of his father.
-
When he was 14, he and his family moved to Barcelona where he applied to the city’s most prestigious School of Fine Arts. However, Picasso was not very studious, so he quickly grew tired of it.
-
Despite his general lack of scholastic interest as a young man, Picasso became an extremely successful painter, printmaker, ceramicist, sculptor, and stage designer. Picasso is most widely known for is co-creation of the artistic style known as Cubism.
-
Some of his most popular works include “Guernica” (1937), “Les Demoiselles D’Avignon” (1907), “The Weeping Woman” (1937), and “The Old Guitarist” (1903-1904).
