A photograph of Times Square on December 29th, 1953. Times Square is a major intersection that connects Manhattan, the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. It obtained its name in 1904 when the publisher of The New York Times, Albert Ochs moved the newspaper to different headquarters, which was then known as the Longacre Square. -
Longacre Square served as a starting point for William H. Vanderbilt’s American Horse Exchange in the late 1880s. At the very beginning, Longacre Square was surrounded by dull apartments but soon became an area of excitement when several theatres and better apartments were built, making it a much safer environment. -
Times Square is home to various tourist attractions such as the, ‘Hard Rock Cafe’, ‘Madame Tussauds Wax Museum’ and ABC’s Times Square Studios where ‘Good Morning America’ happens to be filmed.
